The Guatemalan Ministry of Health reports a 43% decrease in dengue cases through week 30 of 2026, compared to the same period in 2025. 9,689 cases were registered this year compared to 17,000 the previous year, representing a reduction of 7,311 infections. Factors attributed to this decrease include preventative measures, less rainfall, and the circulation of the same viral subtype detected in 2023.
However, it is warned that a change in the variant could increase infections next year. In 2024, dengue affected 96,000 people and caused 117 deaths, while in 2025, 48,278 cases and five deaths were recorded.
In August 2025, Guatemala reported 18,429 confirmed cases and five deaths, with the highest incidence in Sacatepéquez, Escuintla, Quetzaltenango, Petén and Retalhuleu.
