Six locally transmitted dengue cases in France this year

French health authorities have reported three new locally transmitted cases of dengue in the departments of Pyrénées-Orientales, Lozère, and Gard, bringing the total number of locally transmitted cases to six in 2024.

The six cases have been reported in the departments of Hérault (1 case), Alpes-Maritimes (2 cases), Pyrénées-Orientales and Lozère (2 cases), and Gard (1 case).

These are the first and only cases reported in Europe so far this year.

This year, travel-associated dengue cases in France have exceeded 3,000, with many of the cases contracted in Martinique, Guadeloupe, and French Guiana.

France has been reporting locally transmitted dengue cases since 2010. Since 2010, 167 locally transmitted cases have been reported in the country.
