MOSQUITO CONTROL MEASURES
It is an infectious disease caused by a virus that is transmitted through the bite of a mosquito. Forty percent of the world’s population lives in areas at risk of dengue. It is prevented by controlling the vector and avoiding bites, with permethrin-impregnated mosquito nets, appropriate clothing, and vaccines. It is a basic and fundamental strategy to reduce the risk of contracting dengue.
Reduce exposure by avoiding places and times when mosquitoes are known to be most active. a. Avoid exposure from dusk until dawn. b. Where transmission is seasonal, the highest intensity occurs during the rainy season and immediately afterward.
Wear appropriate clothing (long sleeves, loose-fitting, and light-colored).
Accommodations protected with mosquito nets (treated with permethrin or untreated).
Sleep in air-conditioned rooms (if possible) with windows protected by mosquito screens impregnated with permethrin around the bed – mesh smaller than 15 mm.
Use of repellents: Cover all exposed parts of the skin well. Apply them to the hands first, rub them together, and then apply a thin layer to the face. Avoid contact with eyes and mucous membranes, do not apply them to children’s hands. Do not use them on irritated skin or over eczema. Do not inhale aerosol formulas. Wait about 20 minutes to apply them after applying sunscreen – always afterwards!
