Increase in Dengue Cases in Sri Lanka: Over 30,000 Cases Reported in 2024

July 14, 2024

So far in 2024, Sri Lanka has reported an alarming increase in dengue cases, reaching a total of 30,000 affected individuals. Health authorities have identified Colombo and Gampaha as the most affected regions, representing a significant proportion of the reported cases.

This increase in cases is attributed to climatic conditions and the lack of effective mosquito breeding control. Local authorities have intensified prevention and control campaigns, urging the population to eliminate potential breeding sites in their homes.

Additionally, citizens are advised to take preventive measures such as using repellents, mosquito nets, and long-sleeved clothing to reduce the risk of bites. Awareness campaigns continue, emphasizing the importance of community collaboration in the fight against this disease.
