INCREASE IN DENGUE CASES IN NUEVO LEÓN, MEXICO, BY 775% IN 2024

July 18, 2024

In Nuevo León, Mexico, dengue cases have increased by 775% in 2024 compared to the previous year. According to the Ministry of Health, cases have risen from 12 to 105 by week 27 of the year, and a further increase is expected for week 28, with 131 confirmed cases and one death. The most affected municipalities are Guadalupe, Monterrey, and Juárez.

This significant increase in cases is attributed to the humid conditions in the region, which have prompted health authorities to implement various preventive measures, such as fumigation and clean-up campaigns to combat the mosquito that transmits dengue.

Nationally, in Mexico, 20,249 cases and 49 deaths from dengue have been confirmed so far this year, with the presence of all four serotypes of the virus.

Additionally, the government has supported more than 50 fumigation programs to prevent the proliferation of mosquitoes, while San Nicolás has reinforced its campaigns against dengue and has established a contact number to request fumigation in affected neighborhoods.
