The Philippines recorded 117,952 cases of dengue fever between January and August 2016, a 41% decrease compared to the previous year. An increase in cases is expected due to the rainy season and the presence of stagnant water, which serves as a breeding ground for mosquitoes. The Department of Health (DOH) advises preventive measures such as wearing protective clothing, using mosquito repellent, and eliminating standing water.
