Study reveals high exposure to dengue fever in Argentine adults

June 5, 2026

A national study in Argentina, conducted on more than 5,000 blood donors in 2025, indicates that 50.6% of adults have already been exposed to dengue fever, a record increase compared to previous studies. Northern provinces such as Tucumán and Santiago del Estero show exposure rates exceeding 78%, while in the central region of the country and the Buenos Aires Metropolitan Area (AMBA), rates range between 31.9% and 35.7%.

The study also notes that people over 56 years of age and men have a higher seroprevalence. The 2023-2024 season saw more than 580,000 cases and 400 deaths. The study warns of the risk of more severe secondary infections due to the circulation of different virus serotypes and the need to adapt prevention and surveillance strategies.
