Sri Lanka has reported 36,168 cases of dengue fever as of June 5, 2026, a significant increase compared to the previous year.
The Western Province accounts for almost half of the cases, with Colombo, Gampaha, and Kalutara being the most affected districts. Twenty deaths have been recorded, including three children.
In response, a three-day national eradication campaign (June 8-10) was launched in 14 districts, focusing on eliminating mosquito breeding sites in homes, institutions, and other high-risk areas. Authorities are warning of legal action against violators. The increase coincides with the start of the monsoon season, a period of peak transmission.
