Sri Lanka has recorded 44,000 cases of dengue fever and 28 deaths so far this year.
The situation has worsened in recent weeks, with a significant increase in infections in June compared to April. Unplanned urbanization and damage caused by Cyclone Ditwah have exacerbated the outbreak.
The western region of the country, including Colombo, accounts for more than half of the cases. Authorities warn that the number of patients could match that of the 2019 outbreak.
