Dengue cases nationwide in Malaysia have increased by 27%, reaching 33,367 as of June 13, compared to 27,640 during the same period last year.
In Sabah, the increase is 50.4%, with 2,866 cases up from 1,905. The districts of Kota Kinabalu, Kota Marudu, Tawau, Sandakan, Penampang, and Putatan are the main contributors.
The increase is attributed to the expected cyclical trend and a shift in circulating dengue virus sub-variants, with DEN-3 becoming dominant.
New strategies based on behavioral knowledge and the Kombat program are being implemented.
