Taiwan‘s Centers for Disease Control (CDC) announced the first locally acquired dengue case of 2026.
The patient is a man in his 60s residing in Qianzhen District, Kaohsiung City, who developed symptoms on May 23. Tests confirmed dengue type 1 infection. The case’s transmission was concentrated at his residence and workplace. To date, Taiwan has recorded 64 dengue cases this year: one locally acquired and 63 imported from Southeast and South Asian countries, primarily Indonesia, the Maldives, and Vietnam.
This number is comparable to last year’s. An increase in the epidemic is expected due to the weather and the rainy season. The public is urged to take preventative measures, and medical institutions are urged to remain vigilant.
