The Florida Department of Health has reported the first locally acquired case of dengue fever in Hillsborough County this summer.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), 42 cases of dengue have been reported in Florida so far this year. Last year, the CDC reported 506 cases in Florida.
Hillsborough County reported seven locally transmitted cases of dengue between July 2024 and January 2025.
Florida is currently in the peak of mosquito season, which runs from March to October.
