Ecuador has registered more than 28,000 cases of dengue fever, with 11 consecutive weeks of increases compared to 2015 and five consecutive weeks exceeding the number of infections in 2014. The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) identifies Ecuador as the only country in the region experiencing an increase in cases. Rising temperatures, increased rainfall, and insecticide resistance are contributing to the proliferation of the Aedes aegypti mosquito.
