A total of 321 cases of dengue have been reported in Kerala, India, over the past two weeks—three times more than during the same period last year. Around 1,300 people are showing symptoms. Two deaths have been reported in Thiruvananthapuram.
The mosquito breeds during the monsoon season, and authorities have found breeding sites in potted plants inside homes and apartments. There are concerns about a further rise in cases with the onset of the monsoon and the possible spread of rat fever if proper sanitation is not carried out.
