The city of Zamboanga has declared a dengue epidemic after recording 1,241 cases and 12 deaths. Active transmission clusters have been identified in 39 barangays, representing a 500% increase compared to last year.
The barangays of Calarian, Sta. Maria, Talon-Talon, Ayala, and Putik have the highest rates. The epidemic resolution was passed on August 3, marking the worst outbreak since 2022.
Authorities are urging intensified cleaning and sanitation campaigns and reiterating the 5S strategy against dengue.
