La Libertad is the fifth region with the most dengue cases in Peru, registering 2,860 people affected up to Epidemiological Week 23.
Of these, 2,137 are confirmed cases and 723 are probable. This represents an increase of 1,471.43% compared to the previous year. The province of Virú is the most affected with 1,750 cases, followed by Chao with 1,563 confirmed cases.
The scarcity of potable water and a lack of education contribute to the spread of the Aedes aegypti mosquito.
Other regions with high incidence are San Martín (4,985), Piura (4,392), Lima (3,210), and Ucayali (2,915).
