A dramatic increase in dengue cases has been observed in Hanoi and its surrounding areas over the past two weeks, indicating the peak of the epidemic. As of August 5, the city had recorded 1,259 dengue cases in 115 of its 126 communes and neighborhoods, more than double the number recorded during the same period in 2015. The health department has deployed inspection teams.
The heat, humidity, and rain are conducive to mosquito breeding. There are calls to strengthen surveillance, early detection, and epidemic management.
