Panama has recorded more than 6,000 cases of dengue fever and 16 deaths nationwide. All four serotypes of the virus are circulating in the country, with dengue type 2 causing the most serious complications.
The Metropolitan Region leads with 1,717 cases and two deaths, one in Tocumen and the other in Veracruz. Veracruz reports more than 600 cases, although with a reduction in weekly infections. Tocumen has around 200 confirmed cases.
