Three new locally transmitted cases of dengue fever have been reported in Gangshan District, Kaohsiung City, Taiwan, all belonging to the same family. The index case, a man in his 60s, developed symptoms on August 26 and tested positive for dengue type 2. Two household members also tested positive. All three are hospitalized. Nationwide, 145 confirmed cases of dengue fever have been reported in 2016, 10 of which were locally transmitted and 135 imported. Health authorities are implementing control and prevention measures, including fumigation and health education, in response to the increased mosquito population due to rain and high temperatures.
