Colombia has registered 70,452 cases of dengue fever in 2016 up to epidemiological week 32. The El Niño phenomenon and the aftermath of the August 10 earthquake could worsen the situation by promoting water accumulation and the reproduction of Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus mosquitoes. Magdalena and Cesar have seen increases in cases of 234% and 165%, respectively, associated with rainfall anomalies. The importance of preventive measures is emphasized.
