Colombian health authorities have raised the alarm over the exponential increase in dengue cases in the department of Santander (ranked third in the country for the most active cases).
So far this year, 14,207 people have been reported with this disease, and 10 have died, representing a 688% increase compared to the previous year.
The number of severe patients has increased by 396% in the region. Four out of ten identified dengue cases are minors, while 7% are elderly.
Bucaramanga has reported 4,608 sick individuals, and six people have died from the disease.
