However, suspected cases so far this year exceed 8,000, according to official data. The Dominican Republic is facing the season of highest virus circulation due to the heat and rains.
In 2023, the country faced an epidemic outbreak of the disease, with approximately 28,000 confirmed cases and more than 60 deaths.
