Sri Lanka‘s health authorities have reported 858 dengue cases in the past 8 days, indicating a surge in cases across the country.
The increase in cases is attributed to rainy conditions and receding floodwaters, which create additional breeding sites for mosquitoes.
As of December 8, a total of 46,385 cases have been reported in 2024, with Colombo District recording the highest number at 11,685.
The Western Province registered 19,927 cases, the highest figure at the provincial level.
