The Puerto Rico Department of Health (PRDH) reported that the number of confirmed dengue cases on the island so far in 2024 stands at 4,798, a significant increase of more than three times compared to 2023, when 1,242 cases were recorded.
Nine deaths have been confirmed, and one more is under investigation.
The municipalities with the highest incidence include San Juan, with 995 cases, followed by Carolina with 293, and Rincón with 240. The most affected age groups are people aged 40 to 59 years (936 cases), adolescents aged 15 to 19 years (737 cases), and children aged 10 to 14 years (683 cases), according to the statement.
Last March, the department issued a public health emergency declaration for dengue due to the historically high number of reported cases. At that time, 549 dengue cases had been recorded.
