Pakistan’s Health Authorities have intensified the campaign against dengue after detecting five cases, including four in the same house in the Gul Bahar locality of Peshawar.
Among the reported cases are four Afghan children. Another 37 people have been examined in the same area. 20 patients were hospitalized due to the infection.
So far this year, 66 cases of the disease have been diagnosed in the province. 13 cases have been registered in Swabi and Dir Lower, 10 each, seven in Haripur and Bannu, six in Bajaur, three each in Charsadda and Abbottabad, two in Swat, and one case each in Chitral Lower, Kohat, Buner, Dir Upper, and Nowshera. So far, no deaths from dengue have been recorded this year.
There are two hotspots in the areas of Gul Bahar in Peshawar and the Tendo Dag area of Dir Lower.
The province is endemic to the virus. In 2017, 70 deaths and 25,000 infections were recorded. In 2023, the number of infections in the province was 747, the lowest number recorded by any province in the country.
