The number of dengue-related deaths in Peru has reached 242 so far in 2024, out of a total of 260,159 reported cases. The disease has entered an endemic phase, indicating better control of the situation, according to the National Center for Epidemiology, Prevention, and Disease Control of the Ministry of Health, as reported on August 20th.
According to official data collected up to epidemiological week 32, the total number of cases has increased by 19% compared to the same period in 2023, with an incidence rate that has risen to 762.68 per 100,000 inhabitants.
In 2023, there was a 347% increase in dengue cases compared to 2022, with a total of 217,839 cases and 381 deaths, according to data from the dengue situational room of the Ministry of Health.
To date, in 2024, 93% of dengue cases have been confirmed by health authorities, with 90% of these cases showing no warning signs, and only 705 exhibiting severe dengue symptoms.
As of August 1st, dengue in Peru has shifted from an epidemic to an endemic phase. Although the disease remains present, it is now more controlled and manageable.
