Dengue in Peru. 258,000 cases so far this year

Health authorities in Peru have reported 258,613 dengue cases in the country up to epidemiological week 27 (EW 27); 241 deaths have been reported, of which 12 are under investigation.

This is an increase compared to the 189,892 cases and 326 deaths during the same period in 2023 (with an incidence of 561.26 cases per 100,000 inhabitants).

The departments reporting the most cases in 2024 up to EW 27 are Lima (86,401 cases), La Libertad (44,453), Piura (33,248), Ica (31,716), and Áncash (18,634). The departments with the most deaths in 2024 up to EW 27 are Lima (77 deaths), La Libertad (35), Ica (29), Lambayeque (28), and Piura (27).

As of May 2024, the Aedes aegypti mosquito has been reported in 24 regions, 106 provinces, and a total of 582 districts.

Throughout the entire year of 2023, there were 444 deaths from this disease, and the fatality rate was 0.17%. The highest fatality rate in the last 14 years was recorded in 2018, at 0.38%; however, this was the year with the lowest number of cases in the period (4,698 cases) and one of the years with the lowest number of deaths (18).
