Paraguay has officially entered the inter-epidemic phase of dengue, marking the end of the 2023-2024 epidemic that lasted 44 weeks and resulted in over 101,602 cases and 132 deaths, according to accumulated data, with a predominance of the DENV-2 serotype.
Currently, there is a significant decrease in the disease. The epidemic curve shows that in the last two weeks (epidemiological weeks 27 and 28), a total of 97 cases with a dengue diagnosis were identified: 64 cases in the previous week (week 27), and 33 cases at the end of the last week, recording a 48% decrease. Additionally, there is a 26% reduction in dengue-related hospitalizations. In the past two weeks, 54 hospitalized cases with a dengue diagnosis were recorded, 43% of which belong to the pediatric group.
Despite this epidemiological moment, it is essential to maintain constant case surveillance, as well as mosquito breeding site control, due to the year-round circulation of the virus.
