Panama‘s health authorities (MINSA) have reported a total of 11,815 confirmed dengue cases in the first seven months of the year.
The regions with the most positive cases are: Panama Metro with 3,434; Colón with 1,690; Panama Oeste with 1,230; Chiriquí with 974; Panama Norte with 901; Bocas del Toro with 807; and Panama Este with 743.
Additionally, 23 deaths have been recorded—by region: Colón 8, Chiriquí 4, Panama Metro 4, Panama Este 2, Panama Norte 2, Coclé 1, Panama Oeste 1, and Comarca Guna Yala 1.
On July 29, Panama declared a health alert in the regions of Panama Metro, Colón, Panama Este, and Panama Oeste due to the high incidence of cases.
This year, all four serotypes (DENV1, DENV2, DENV3, and DENV4) have been identified. However, as of epidemiological week No. 31, the cosmopolitan genotype of serotype DENV-2 had not been detected in the country.
