Dengue in Nepal: 1657 Cases This Year. Bagmati is the Most Affected Province

Nepal‘s health authorities have reported that 73 districts in the country have registered dengue cases this year. A total of 1657 cases have been reported from January 1 to July 18.

Bagmati Province has experienced the greatest impact, with 570 reported cases, accounting for 34.4% of the total infections. Conversely, Karnali Province has reported the fewest cases. The 10 districts with the highest infection rates are Kathmandu, Jhapa, Chitwan, Makwanpur, Okhaldhunga, Tanahu, Bhojpur, Doti, Sindhupalchowk, and Kavrepalanchok.

The districts of Mustang, Dolpa, Humla, and Jumla have not reported any cases so far, while the district of Mugu, previously unaffected, reported its first cases in June, totaling 2 cases.

Nepal recorded its first 5 dengue deaths in 2010. In the following years, the number of victims were: 1 death in 2015, 1 in 2016, 3 in 2017, 3 in 2018, 6 in 2019, 4 in 2020, and 5 in 2021.

In 2022, the number of deaths peaked at a grim high of 88, the highest recorded so far. In 2023, the number of victims decreased, with 20 deaths.
