Health authorities in the Indian state of Mizoram reported 719 dengue cases and 2 deaths as of November 3, 2024.
There is concern due to the presence of the disease during winter. At least 38 people tested positive out of the 173 samples analyzed during the last week of November.
Over the past 11 months, 8,562 suspected cases were tested, of which 719 were confirmed positive.
The district of Aizawl recorded the highest number of cases with 503, the Lunglei district in southern Mizoram reported 176 cases, and the Champhai district, bordering Myanmar, recorded 14 cases.
The state identified its first dengue cases in 2012, with six infections. Dengue cases have steadily increased over the years but significantly dropped in 2020 and 2021 due to extended lockdowns during the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2022, cases rose to 1,868 with five deaths. The previous year saw two deaths, while this year, one death has been reported so far. The highest number of infections was recorded in 2023, with 2,060 cases out of 12,949 samples and two deaths.
