Health authorities in the Philippines have reported 1,294 dengue infections and five deaths in Iloilo between January 1 and June 22 of this year. This represents a 79 percent increase compared to the same period last year, when 723 cases were recorded.
During the week of June 15 to 22 alone, the province registered 115 new cases spread across various localities. The 115 new dengue cases were reported in Lambunao (10), Oton (6), Passi City (2), Miag-ao (2), Badiangan (6), Calinog (5), Lemery (5), Estancia (5), Dumangas (4), Ajuy (9), Dingle (8), Sara (3), Janiuay (5), Banate (3), Pavia (1), Leon (1), Carles (1), San Dionisio (2), San Joaquin (4), Balasan (1), Santa Barbara (4), Cabatuan (6), Old Barotac (2), Tigbauan (1), Barotac Nuevo (2), Maasin (5), Igbaras (3), Alimodian (3), Batad (1), Leganes (1), Mina (2), Anilao (2), Dueñas (1), Guimbal (1), Pototan (2), San Miguel (1), and San Rafael (2).
The municipalities with the highest incidence of dengue this year are Lambunao, with 88 cases and one death, followed by Passi City with 69 cases, and Oton with 67 cases. Particularly concerning are Badiangan and Miag-ao, where multiple deaths have been reported.
A cluster of cases has been identified in 14 barangays, including San Antonio in Ajuy and Poblacion in Badiangan, indicating localized outbreaks.
The 10 cities that recorded the highest number of dengue cases since January are: Lambunao with 88 cases and one death, Passi City (69), Oton (67), Badiangan (62 cases with two deaths), Calinog (61), Miag-ao (55 cases with two deaths), Lemery (51), Estancia (43), Dumangas (41), and Ajuy (40).
The most affected age groups are children aged 1 to 10 years, with 535 cases, and adolescents aged 11 to 20 years, with 371 cases.
