Honduras has recorded 61 deaths from dengue and over 50,000 cases of the disease so far in 2024.
In recent weeks, the country has reported a downward trend in the number of cases. However, between 5,000 and 8,000 cases are still being registered each week.
On May 31, the Honduran government declared a “national health emergency” due to the exponential increase in cases and ordered the opening of more patient stabilization rooms.
In 2019, Honduras experienced the worst dengue epidemic in its history, with 112,708 cases recorded and 180 deaths in a country with 9.8 million inhabitants.
