Dengue in Gujarat, India

January 5, 2025

Gujarat, India, reported 7,820 cases of dengue in 2024.

However, the seropositivity rate (the presence of antibodies in the blood) has decreased, dropping from 4.7% in 2023 to 3.5% in 2024.

To ensure the rapid diagnosis of dengue in 2025, the state government acquired 170,000 rapid test kits for dengue NS1 detection.

During the monsoon season, intense surveillance and vector control measures were implemented in the most sensitive areas. A total of 492 vector control teams inspected 2,460 zones to monitor and control the spread of the disease.

In addition, serum and mosquito samples were sent to BJ Medical College and the Gujarat Biotechnology Research Centre (GBRC) in Gandhinagar to identify the type of dengue virus circulating in the state.
