Dengue in Guatemala: 43,000 Cases This Year

July 18, 2024

Health authorities in Guatemala have reported more than 43,000 cases of dengue in the country. Half of the cases involve children under the age of 15. There are currently 50 confirmed deaths, most of them in children under 15 years old (and the actual number is likely higher).

The areas with the highest incidence (cases/population) of dengue are in the departments of Jutiapa, Santa Rosa, Zacapa, El Progreso, and Baja Verapaz. However, departments at higher altitudes, particularly Sacatepéquez and Quetzaltenango, as well as the department of Guatemala, are also reporting significant numbers of cases.
