Health authorities in French Polynesia confirmed 33 new dengue cases during epidemiological week 46 of this year, based on 93 samples analyzed. These cases include residents of Tahiti, Bora Bora, Rangiroa, Raiatea, Moorea, Ua Pou, Fakarava, and Tikehau (an atoll in the Tuamotu Archipelago). Notably, this includes the first case on the island without a history of travel within the 15-day exposure period.
The total number of reported cases has reached 306 (283 confirmed cases and 23 probable cases) since November 27, 2023. An upward trend has been observed, with the positivity rate also increasing over the past month, reaching approximately 35.5% in epidemiological week 46.
No new hospitalizations were reported during this notification period. Furthermore, no severe cases or deaths have been reported since the outbreak began.
Since late July, DENV-1 has become the predominant circulating serotype in the country (70% of serotyped samples), with cocirculation of DENV-2 (30% of serotyped samples).
The blue alert level remains in effect for DENV-1 and DENV-2.
