Health authorities in the USA continue to report locally acquired dengue cases in Florida. This past week (Week 50), five new autochthonous cases of dengue have been reported.
In 2024, a total of 79 locally transmitted dengue cases have been recorded across ten counties: Broward (2), Hillsborough (5), Manatee (4), Miami-Dade (47), Monroe (3), Orange (2), Palm Beach (3), Pasco (11), Polk, and Sarasota (1). Symptom onset was recorded in January (3), February, March (2), April, June (11), July (8), August (14), September (19), October (10), and November (10). Three cases were reported in non-Florida residents. Sixty-four cases have been serotyped by PCR.
A total of 881 cases with symptom onset in 2024 have been reported in individuals with a travel history to a dengue-endemic area within the two weeks prior to symptom onset. The counties reporting these cases include: Alachua (2), Brevard (8), Broward (92), Charlotte (2), Collier (18), Columbia, Duval (9), Escambia (3), Flagler, Hendry, Hernando, Hillsborough (60), Indian River (2), Lake (4), Lee (29), Levy (3), Manatee, Marion (5), Martin (2), Miami-Dade (443), Monroe (6), Okaloosa, Okeechobee (3), Orange (45), Osceola (18), Palm Beach (55), Pasco (10), Pinellas (9), Polk (16), Santa Rosa (3), Sarasota (5), Seminole (6), St. Lucie (11), and Volusia (6). Fifty-three cases were reported in non-Florida residents. Six cases met the criteria for severe dengue.
