Health authorities of El Salvador (MINSAL) report that the number of dengue cases in the country has been rising since April 16 of this year. In epidemiological week 16, there were 121 cases, 122 in week 17, 125 in week 18, 138 in week 19, 150 in week 20, and 160 in week 21 (the highest figure for 2023 so far).
So far this year, 2,504 suspected cases have been reported (47 confirmed), a 30% increase compared to 2023, but still far from the figures of 2022 when 6,805 cases were recorded.
There have been 4 severe cases and 159 hospitalizations. No deaths have been reported. The most affected age groups are children and adolescents: there were 745 reports among those aged 5 to 9 years, 714 among those aged 10 to 19 years, and 359 among those aged 1 to 4 years.
