Ecuador broke the record for dengue cases in 2024, surpassing 57,712 cases—a nearly 107% increase compared to 2023 (27,906 cases). This is the highest number recorded in the past five years.
Manabí leads among provinces with the most cases, followed by other coastal areas like El Oro, Guayas, and Los Ríos. The province reported 13 deaths.
The highest incidence in Manabí is concentrated in Portoviejo and Manta. The cantons currently at greatest risk are Jipijapa, Sucre, and 24 de Mayo. In these locations, the case rate per 100,000 inhabitants nearly doubled between 2023 and 2024, increasing from 134.31 to 241.52 in Jipijapa and from 113.01 to 144.68 in Sucre.
Of the 16,239 cases reported in Zone 4, which includes the provinces of Santo Domingo de los Tsáchilas and Manabí, 13,685 were dengue without warning signs. Approximately 2,488 cases of dengue with warning signs were recorded, representing 604 more cases than in 2023, a 37.9% increase. Severe dengue accounted for 66 cases.
