Cuba’s Ministry of Public Health (MINSAP) reported in October that over 17,000 suspected dengue cases had been recorded so far in 2024, with “a considerable number” requiring admission to intensive care units.
In September, the ministry also reported identifying around 12,000 suspected cases of Oropouche fever.
Cuban health authorities do not regularly or comprehensively report on dengue and Oropouche cases on the island. However, they have repeatedly acknowledged in recent months that the epidemiological situation is challenging.
Dengue is currently present in 14 of Cuba’s 15 provinces. Over the past decade, Cuba reported more than 3,000 dengue cases in two separate years (2019 and 2022), according to statistics from the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO).
