Dengue in Cali, Colombia: Over 20,000 Cases

June 12, 2024

Colombian health authorities have reported an increase in dengue cases in Cali, surpassing 20,000. Local authorities have declared a health emergency.

This measure aims to intensify efforts to control the proliferation of the Aedes aegypti mosquito and strengthen hospital care to address the growing number of affected patients. According to health authorities, approximately one thousand new cases of dengue are being recorded per week. So far, four deaths related to this disease have been confirmed, while thirteen others are under investigation to determine their connection to dengue.

Based on data from the first half of the year, epidemiological projections for the second half, and the extended rainy season, which puts additional pressure on the healthcare system, a health emergency has been declared in the city as a preventive measure.
