Dengue Data in Argentina, Epidemiological Week 52, 2024

The Ministry of Health of Argentina, through the National Epidemiological Bulletin (BEN) for epidemiological week (EW) 52, reports that during the 2024/2025 dengue season—which began in EW 31 of 2024—274 confirmed cases have been recorded to date, of which 255 had no history of travel.

Cases were reported throughout the weeks, mainly from notifications in the province of Formosa, where clusters of cases were recorded in the departments of Capital, Patiño, Pilagás, Pirané, and Pilcomayo, although the numbers remain low. Of the cases without a history of travel, 38 were reported in the Central region, 9 in Cuyo, 6 in the Northwest (NOA) region, and 202 in the Northeast (NEA) region.

Starting in EW 42, the first cases without travel history in the Central region were reported in Córdoba province, mainly in the Capital department, followed by Colón, General San Martín, Río Primero, and Unión departments. Subsequently, isolated cases without travel history were reported in other provinces, with the departments having the highest number of cases being:

  • Mendoza (Luján de Cuyo, Capital, Guaymallén, and Godoy Cruz),
  • Tucumán (Cruz Alta, Chicligasta, and Río Chico),
  • CABA (Communes 1 and 3),
  • Buenos Aires (La Matanza, Lanús, Hurlingham, General Pueyrredón, Lomas de Zamora, and Morón),
  • Entre Ríos (Concordia, La Paz, Nogoyá, and Paraná),
  • Salta (Capital),
  • Santa Fe (Castellanos and Rosario),
  • Misiones (L.N. Alem),
  • La Rioja (Capital).

Additionally, three cases associated with organ transplants were confirmed in Buenos Aires and Santa Fe. Furthermore, 95 cases were reported with a history of vaccination against dengue within 30 days prior to symptom onset.

During EW 52, 1,314 suspected cases were reported, of which 20 were confirmed and 50 were classified as probable cases still under investigation. It is important to note that these cases may have symptom onset, consultation, or sample collection from prior weeks.
