Declared Emergency Due to Increase in Dengue Cases in Karnataka, India

The government of Karnataka, India, declared on September 3rd that dengue is an epidemic disease in response to the growing number of cases across the state.

Karnataka has reported 25,408 dengue cases, with a death toll of 12. Two deaths have been recorded in Hassan, Dharwad, and Shivamogga, and one in Mysuru, Haveri, and Davangere.

As of September 2nd, Bengaluru reports the highest number of cases (11,590 cases and three deaths), followed by Mandya (872), Hassan (835), Mysuru (820), and Kalaburgi (793).

The government will implement strict measures to control the spread of dengue, which has been identified as a major public health issue. The notification grants authorities the power to penalize homeowners who allow mosquitoes to breed on their premises.
